Honestly, I feel like this story was just as good as the Explorer games, but eh, to each their own.

Interesting little puzzle game that uses matching tiles to attack your target pokemon. You can assemble a team of 4 or less to attack an enemy pokemon. The foe will attack you with disruption blocks that screw up your playing board to get in the way of your tile matching. Elements play a role as usual but everything has only 1 element to make it simple. Every pokemon has a special ability as well that will trigger when appropriate. Some as simple as doing additional damage for a 4+ block match or adding status ailments to the enemy or delaying their disruption attack. There are microtransactions in the game as well. Mostly to buy more hearts that give you more chances to play. Yeah the game won't let you play if you run out of chances. You start with 5 tries. If you get hearts, you can redeem a heart for 5 more chances. Otherwise your base 5 chances will regenerate every 30 minutes per chance. You can also buy items to help your pokemon battle opponents as well. (CPU opponents, this is a single player game) and you get pokemon by catching them after defeating them in the stage. Each stage is a different pokemon to battle and boss battles are against Mega Evolutions. Some battles, regular or boss near stage 100 start getting really hard and it seems like having those items via microtransactions will make it hella easier. But with patience you can play this game and never spend a cent as there are plenty of ways to get those items and extras in game now via challenges or promotions. By the microtransactions only if you really feel like it. I haven't spent a penny on this free-to-play game at all. Even when the stages got hella hard. Good game, its Free-to-play so treat it as such, play it for a little while then put it down for a bit and come back later.
